Camerata Quartet honors don Jaime Benitez
In conmemoration of Jaime Benitez centenary, the Camerata Quartet
performed a recital at the Arecibo campus of the University of Puerto Rico. The
program included pieces by Mozart, Turina, and Piazzolla. Special guests
included Roberto Rexach Benitez and Luis E. Agrait.

Quartet invited again to Tortola
Following a succesful debut last year, Camerata Quartet performed again at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community
College in Tortola, British Virgin Islands. The group played pieces by Mozart,
Turina, and Borodin. After the concert we had a reception attended
by the Hon. Governor Pearey and Dr. Michael E. O'Neal, president of
the college.

Camerata records works by Milano
Camerata Filarmónica began recording the last works of composer
Roberto Milano. Milano was at the Puerto Rico Conservatory faculty until his
untimely death in 2005. Camerata plans to record all of his last works, some of
them not yet performed publicly.

David Sanchez Performs Symphonic Jazz
Camerata Filarmónica joined jazz virtuoso saxophonist David Sanchez to present his most recent recording,
Coral, in Puerto Rico. Under the baton of
distinguished Argentinean pianist and composer Carlos Franzetti, Camerata
accompanied David in lush orchestral renditions of his Latin American repertoire.
The concert, which took place on September 30, 2005 at the Luis A. Ferré
Performing Arts Center in San Juan, was a fundraising gala for the University of
Puerto Rico radio station, WRTU. You may read a review here.

Camerata Performs at Ponce
On May 27, Camerata Filarmónica offered a chamber music soireé at the
Interamerican University at Ponce, as part of the Fundación Musical de Ponce
season. Flutist Josué Casillas, arpist Elisa Torres and violist Emanuel
Olivieri (all principal players of the Puerto Rico Symphony) performed music by
Mozart, Moreno-Buendía, Ibert, Debussy. Soprano Laura Rey and pianist Teresa
Acevedo completed the program with five Latin American love songs by composers
Yvette Souviron, Eduardo Sánchez and Jaime León. You can read a review here.

Posthumous
Premiere of Roberto Milano
Camerata Filarmónica and violist Emanuel Olivieri offered the posthumous premiere of Roberto Milano's
Concerto for Viola and String Orchestra, at the Puerto Rico Conservatory
of Music. Professor Francisco Cabán conducted the work, which is in four movements:
Prelude, Romance, Scherzo and Elegia. Also in the program was Joaquin Turina's
Scene Andalouse for viola, piano, and string quartet, and Sir Arthur Bliss' Sonata for Viola and
Pianoforte. Pianist Teresa Acevedo was featured in these two works.
Maestro Milano, distinguished composition teacher at the Puerto Rico
Conservatory of Music, passed away unexpectedly last
February, leaving an extensive catalog of works in all genres.
Puerto Rico Symphony Adapts
A Musical Zoo
The Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra received a grant from the National Endowment
for the Arts (NEA) to produce the educational concert The
Orchestra: a Musical Zoo. The program was first presented by Camerata
Filarmónica to an audience of 1,800 children in Guaynabo's Center for
Performing Arts. Cuatro virtuoso Edwin Colón Zayas and actress Carola
García will be joining the orchestra to show the children the basic
of orchestral music.

Camerata
at Tortola
Camerata performed a chamber music recital at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community
College in Tortola, British Virgin Islands. The group played pieces by Mozart,
Turina, Bliss, Piazzolla and the world premiere of Javier de la Torre's Pentámero
de Venus for strings and piano. We thank President Dr. Michael E. O'Neal and
Staff members Marietta and Ivonne for their hospitality.
